Someshwar Rao is a research fellow at the Institute for Research on Public Policy. In this capacity, he provides advice on the Institute’s Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic Growth research program. He has published extensively on microeconomic and macroeconomic issues, including multinationals in North America, foreign direct investment, service-sector productivity, corporate governance, offshoring, innovation and Canada’s relations with Asia-Pacific. He is also author of the study, North American Economic Integration: Opportunities and Challenges for Canada (IRPP 2004). He was director of the Productivity and Competitiveness Analysis Directorate at Industry Canada, and served as a senior economist at the Economic Council of Canada for over 15 years. He was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for his contribution to policy research on productivity, North American economic integration and foreign direct investment.
