George E. Lafond is a member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Treaty 6 territory, Saskatchewan. For four decades he has built and supported community partnerships, at all levels, to promote the province and to improve outcomes for Indigenous peoples in education and employment. He has also built collaborative partnerships in all sectors of government, business, and with community and not-for-profit agencies. At the community and family levels, he has been active in promoting personal wellness and healthy living, and he plays a keen role in the promotion of and participation in sports and recreation. He has received many awards and distinctions, including the Peter Lougheed Award, 2013, and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, 2016. In 2016 the University of Saskatchewan commissioned a classical song in honour of his contribution to reconciliation.
