Jock Finlayson

Jock Finlayson is executive vice president and chief policy officer at the Business Council of British Columbia. He directs the council’s work on economic, fiscal, tax, environmental, regulatory and human capital issues. He was vice president of research at Canadian Council of Chief Executives (now the Business Council of Canada). Prior to that he worked in the market research field.

He holds a master’s degree in business from Yale University, undergraduate and MA degrees from the University of British Columbia, and a post-graduate diploma in economics from the University of London. He received a doctorate of laws from Royal Roads University in 2014. He is the author or co-author of two books and more than 50 published articles, book chapters and monographs.

From 2007 to 2013, Jock Finlayson was a member of the board of directors of the Bank of Canada. He is a member of the National Statistics Council, and he serves on the boards of the Institute for Research on Public Policy, the Centre for the Study of Living Standards, and Genome BC. Since 2014, he has been part of the Nominating Committee at the BC Business Laureates Hall of Fame.
